Central Park is a large public urban park in Manhattan, New York. Andrew Jackson Downing began to publicize the need for a public park in 1844. It coasted more than $5 million dollars for the land alone. There are many activities to do at Central Park. There is sports, entertainment, sculptures, and much more. For sports, Central Park is best for runners, joggers, bicyclists, and inline skaters. Many races are held at Central Park. A long tradition of horseback riding is held there. For entertainment, each summer, the Public Theater presents free open-air theatre productions, often starring well-known stage and screen actors, in the Delacorte Theater. It all started in 1962. For children, there are 21 unique playgrounds. What else is there? There is a zoo at Central Park. It is not only for children, adults enjoy it too. The famous Central Park Carousel has thrilled children since the original one was built in 1870. There are many different sculptures in Central Park. One of the sculptures is of Christopher Columbus. Central Park has a low crime rate so it is one of the safest urban parks in the world.
